The shop
Colton first picked up a welding torch in high school and never put it down. After two years at VoTech — where he earned his welding degree — he joined the union in 2012 and went to work. Refineries, power plants, and industrial sites coast to coast, where weld quality gets tested the hard way. After years of that work and a series of certification tests, he earned his journeyman boilermaker card in 2016. Ten thousand hours of it.
He started Schluter's Metal Art in 2012, taking on custom fabrication work in Helena in the gaps between stints on the road. By 2017 he walked away from the union for good and put everything into the shop. He hasn't looked back since.
Every project that leaves the shop has Colton's involvement from start to finish. He's in on the design, the fit-up, and the finish — backed by a crew that holds the same standard. No outsourced work, no catalog parts.
The powder coating line runs in-house under the PowderCoating of Helena banner — which means the same shop that fabricated your railing is the same shop that coated it. Tight tolerance, start to finish.
Schluter's works with homeowners, contractors, and commercial builders across the Helena area. Residential railings, custom gates, wildlife art, structural steel, automotive powder coating — if it's metal, it's in scope.
How we work
Nothing comes off a shelf. Every piece is designed for the job, cut from raw stock, and fabricated from scratch. No standard catalog parts.
The powder coating line is on-site. Your finish doesn't go to a third party — same shop, same person, same standard of work.
You deal with Colton directly. No account managers, no handoffs. The person quoting your job is the person overseeing every step of it.
What we quote is what you pay. Scope changes get discussed before they happen, not invoiced after. No surprises.
